DNS Flag Day: February 1, 2019 – Are You Ready?
Currently, there are DNS systems in place that are non-compliant with the current DNS standards that were established approximately 20 years ago. Since then, efforts have been made to accommodate these non-compliant systems. However, these efforts hamper the current DNS, making them inefficient.
For this reason, it has been decided to end these accommodation efforts on February 1, 2019. This change will benefit many domains, making them slightly more efficient, and allowing the deployment of new functionality, including new protection methods against DDoS attacks.
The biggest concern would come into play for domains hosted on non-compliant DNS servers. If you are a domain holder, you can test your domain to see if it is ready for the planned change, as well as receive any further instructions needed, using the tool below.
DNS Flag Day: Test Your Domain Tool
If your domain passes, then you are ready for the DNS Flag Day change this February 1st. If there are any conflicts that keep you from passing the test, please make sure to follow the steps suggested by the tool to insure your site does not face any complications from the change.
